The Metalast standard blend consists of various grades of mild steel. Metalast can adapt this product to meet your individual density and sizing requirements for marine ballast.
Marine Ballast is material that is used to provide stability to a vessel.
In the marine industry heavy weight fixed ballast and loose fill ballast is used to counterbalance the vessel. In sailing boats marine ballast is used to provide stabilty against the lateral effects of the wind on the the sails which could cause the vessel to tip or, in very high winds, to heel and in extreme cases even to capsize.
In the case of cargo vessels, bulk carriers or container ships, marine ballast is used to keep the vessel in trim, ensuring the propeller and rudder are submerged at all times.
Here are a few examples of how we have provided marine ballast weight products to the marine industry.
